Gasket around lid w/ K&N needed???????
I finally got my Direct Flo lid and my K@N in and installed it. but I have some important questions... I put the gasket around the edge of my lid and tried to install it but It would not fit at all (I fought with it forever) pulled off the gasket and alittle bit of work, and it went right on. Is that gasket needed???? Have any of you ever pulled it off and left it off????

I would say if there is a good seal between the filter and lid then you should be okay. I think it's probably always best to have the gasket there if possible, but some lids don't fit well anyway and with the gasket there they fit even worse.

fwiw, my K&N did not come with a gasket!
I think it seals ok, but I was annoyed that they couldn't get it right to include it. I would most likely have used it.
(The gasket keeps unfiltered air from being sucked in between the edges of the lid and filter. You DON'T want particles of who know's what getting down inside your engine)

Seadoo, what he said. I don't know if there is a really good way to tell if it's sealed properly. I guess if the lid feels tight all along the top of the filter it should be fine...but I think it's best to use the gasket if you can.

Well, I put the gasket back on last night and it seems to sit higher on the air box. there is also now a very small gap on the sides where the air box and lid meet. I think I might take it off for good. it still feels very tight against the K&N.

If you are looking for a leak, blow some smoke around the lid while the car is running and look to see if its being sucked in or if its just floating around the lid.

ditch the K&N for a GREEN or HOLLEY filter
even with gaskets, i couldnt get the K&N to seal with my SLP lid, but the GREEN filter seals perfectly without a gasket
