ls1 coil packs are pretty much indestructable. i work at a gm dealership and have yet to see them fail. what codes do you have? p0300? any other codes? you likely have another issue spark/fuel related. no one can help without codes you pulled from it. give us a starting point.

Def a missfire.

Drive the car hard to clean off the plugs the shut her down in the area you will be looking in. DO NOT LET IT IDLE, then start pulling every plug to I.D. the rich one.

Lick the coil pack to test it.

I can tell you you don't want to try by holding the boot and grounding the plug. A shocking lesson learned at 15...

mine failed me at 56,000 due to an exhaust leak after my headers were installed. I had bolts to fall out where the a.i.r. connection goes on the pass side. My pass side plugs were fouled. I bought 8 new plugs and it got better but same ole po300. Bought 8 wires, got better, same ole po300. Bought 4 coils for the pass side. Got better and ultimately swapped the driver's side coils. I replaced all 8 plugs, wires, and then coils then it finally started running like a champ again I made sure to fix that exhaust leak too! and yea don't crack the porceline on the plugs. That'll cause misfires too

would an in-line tester work on these? otherwise a clip on type would work.

Ignition Coil Test

1. Disconnect the ignition coil output wire at the distributor cap.
2. Connect a spark plug to the end of the ignition coil output wire which you just disconnected.
3. Connect a ground wire to the threaded portion of the spark plug.
4. Disconnect the ignition coil ground wire from the negative terminal on the coil (Green Wire).
5. Connect one end of a ground wire to the ignition coil negative terminal.
6. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
7. Tap the other end of the ignition coil ground wire jumper on an good grounding point (for example the battery negative terminal) and look for sparks at the spark plug that correspond to the frequency of your tapping of the ground wire.
8. If you have a good spark at the spark plug, the ignition coil is good.
9. If you don't get a good spark, check for approximately 12 VDC from the coil positive terminal (black wire) to ground with the ignition switch in the ON position. You should also get approximately 12 VDC from the coil negative terminal (Green wire) to ground

Ignition Coil Resistance Check
In addition to the test above, you may elect to perform an ignition coil resistance check as confirmation of the coil's condition.

1. Check the ignition coil primary coil resistance by connecting an ohmmeter between the positive (Black wire) and negative (Green wire) terminals on the coil. The resistance should be 0.4 to 0.6 ohms.
2. Check the ignition coil secondary coil resistance by connecting an ohmmeter between the coil output terminal and the ignition coil negative terminal. The resistance should be 5000 to 7200 ohms.

mate coils do fail.
I have a failed one on my lap now

My LS1 commodore started running like a bitch on 7 cyls and threw a code

P0354
Circuit open, shorted or earther for less than 15 seconds

I started the car from cold the next day and the no4 header pipe had no heat at all after 1 minute of running so its more than a miss fire.

Relpaced it and all is good

I put it down to being too close to the stainless headers after my coil relocation so i have a shield now
