Default Almost a costly mistake 04 GTO

So, I went to the car lot this weekend just to browse around and see if anyone had any Camaro Z28's or SS, or a Trans Am that I may want to buy at the end of October when I'll have my nice down payment. I almost got talked into buying this.

It's an 04 GTO with 99k miles for 12,450. I ended up getting my payment down to 250 a month. Luckily I texted my brother and he told me he could find me one at the same price with 45k miles on it. He used to sell cars and knows how to talk to these people. So, long story short, I almost ended up financing a $12,450 mistake.

I'd say that's a bit much for the miles. Like said already, look for a 05 or 06.

Im with these guys, if you can afford it an 05/06 is where its at. LS2 400hp/400tq instead of the regular 350HP LS1.

250 a month is damn good though, lol.

Damn, you almost got raped with your own blood and tears.
I had negotiated an '04 goat down to $270 a month with 26k on the clock LAST YEAR.

Yeah, if my brother hadn't texted me and told me he found the same one with 45k for the same price I'd be screwed

Luckily I'm good to go though.

I had an 04, you will like it, but if I get another one it has to be an 04 or 05.

Search auto trader, theres quite a few of them on that site.

04's are alot less...

I found a few low mile 05-06 theft recoveries with no drivetrain and mint body and interior for cheap. Like 8k or so...

Not bad since most of them were single digit cars.

I like those gto's, but still would want a 69gto or 62 catalina instead.

I wouldn't go that far. It's just a matter of what you can afford. If you can find a newer, post LS-1 GTO then go for it; stronger motor and a prettier hood to boot...

There was a 00' Z28 but they had it priced at like 16k, it's rediculously overpriced here. Everywhere I go around here they're like that.

STAY AWAY from the dealers!!!!!!!!!

That's the last place you want to buy a performance car unless it's a collector car dealership and the car has like 5,000 miles.

If you want a 4th gen don't settle for a GTO LS1 or LS2. You won't be happy with it as it's not the same. I've owned both and the GTO just doesn't pull it off like an LS1 f-body does in many different ways.

And that's exactly why I walked away. I'll just have to keep searching.

GTOs arent all that heavy plus they are much better to live with. ride great, much nice interior, and good seats. the only reason i wouldnt buy an LS1 GTO is because the color i REALLY want is an 06 color, so itll LS2 for me. SRM FTW that car you looked at i wouldnt pay anything over 10k for. ls1s are good buys, go drive one if you havent. they are barely behind an fbody in a race so dont let that stop you from getting the better overall car. dont forget, the last fobdy was built in 02, the oldest GTO is 04; that goes a long way in my book. but then again, if you like the looks over an fbod over goat, then go with that. once you start modding, everything changes. if i had the money for an ls1 gto when i bought my car, i would have in a heartbeat. they are dirt cheap. the only thing i would miss is ttops.

I'd actually prefer hardtop to be honest. I drove the 00' Z28 M6 they had on the lot and was not happy with it at all. The shifting didn't feel right but I can't pinpoint exactly what it was that didn't feel right about it. But when I drove the 04 GTO M6 it felt great. I like the look of both, but I've been wanting an Fbody for months now and is really the main reason I walked away (besides my brother finding a better deal somewhere else). So, the problem is, I have no credit (I'm literally a ghost on credit ratings) and need a cosigner. The only person that can do it has a 680 credit score but won't be able to cosign for me if I don't find something in the next week or so .

LS1 Goats are always perceived as pigs, but my friend snagged a 13.4 @ 104 in his stock '04 automatic with a decent 2.0 60ft. That matches the E.T. and mph my Z28 managed when it was stock. When I had nothing but headers and 2.73s, he'd hang surprisingly well.

tough to hear, but you might as well save up your money and not buy right now. if you rush into a sale, you might buy a piece of crap that has many problems, like a friend of mine did. take out a credit card with like $1,500 limit just to build credit, and use it often, but pay it off every week. thats what i did just so i had some credit to my name. i still needed a cosigner, but my credit score was like 720 without ever having a big, secured loan in my name. i didnt even know it was possible but i can assure you it works. save money, and have a big down payment for whatever you wanna buy say maybe next spring, then try again with a cosigner as well.

Like I said in your other thread, look within 500 miles of your house, hell what's your ZIP what do you want and I'll find it for you in 5 minutes!

I ran bone stock with 1000 miles on my 04 GTO 6spd a 13.7 at 103mph in 100 degree weather. The car (GTO) feels like just that A CAR, not a rocketship like a LS1 SS or WS6 does. The IRS in all of them is a non-hooking road detached feeling POS. Plus the fit and finish on a GTO is deceiving only because the material used looks nicer. Don't be fooled its just as 1/2 *** as any other American car. Actually IMHO it's worse. But I don't buy performance cars because of how nice the interior looks. I want the car to FLY. The GTO is like the GXP GP, or Impala SS, or TB SS, big motor in a regular car. Not big motor in a car built for performance which requires sacrifices in other areas (interior).

My advice start your search today, post up your area, what color, mileage max, stock or modified, what model, what year range, and max price and we'll help you.

I live in 40220. I want a 02 camaro preferably, but would take a TA. Either way, it has to have a V8 and has to have the M6 I refuse to drive autos (I know I know, stall stall blah blah, I like manual, shut up lol). Preferably under 60k miles (probably won't happen but still) max mileage is 90k. Black in color or another dark color besides burgundy. Max price probably around 10k NON MODDED.
