Depends on what brand they are. I'm guessing you can pick up 10 or so to the ground. You should be able to get a LT header and catted-y setup to pass emissions in CA without too much of a problem. But if ya have to go shorties, there is some power to be made there.

do you have stock exhaust now? i think people dislike shorties because you pay alot for minimal gain, however if you have no choice you should pick up a little. if you go shorties , high flow cats and Y pipe you should probably get 12rwhp. i called JBA and they estimated 8 rwhp if i only added shorties. to my at the time stock 99. 2001 & 2002 got better stock exhaust manifolds so maybe 5 rwhp. ps your stock cats are worth $$ because they have platinum. cheers. ps2 long tubes add 20 rwhp but i believe you need a tune to actually see those gains.

As Jon said above, there are gains to be had with shorties and in applications where you can not use longtubes the shorties make alot of sense. No matter how many naysayers you find, shorties do make power over stock manifolds and can be a good investment if you want to abide by smog laws. It is obviously a great idea to run the best exhaust you can get on there to take advantage of your mods and when you are cammed and can't run longtubes, shorties can make the most of your setup in your situation.
