Default How to tell if its a WS6?

How do you tell if a car is a original WS6? is there a vin numeral or letter? I know the late 80's Montes and the eighth number of the vin is a G if its an original SS, or is there a code on the tag somewhere?

Check the back inside edge of the drivers door for the RPO sticker
if it has WS6 on the list then it's real.
BTW this has been gone over millions of times.

FYI, this is not correct.

Since 1981, the 8th digit of any GM VIN has always been the engine code, not anything to do with trim level or model.

A mid to late '80s Monte SS should have an "H" for the 8th digit, as they were all the same 305ci/4bbl V8.

'98-'02 F-bodies will have a "G" as the 8th digit when originally equpited with an LS1.

RPM, not looking to stir a fight, please don't take it that way, however you are incorrect the eighth digit will always be a G if its an SS here's an example
this is the vin from a Ls on ebay

1G1GZ11H 4JP11847

this is the vin from a SS

1G1GZ11G 2HR111803

The G is for the HO motor which will tell you its an original SS, I might not no jack about the LT1/LS1 T/A's but I know my Montes
