Default Higher mileage '98 Trans Am question.

I'm considering buying a 1998 Trans Am from a dealership that my buddy found. It has 132000 miles on it but looks to be in great condition. I'm going up to test drive it tomorrow and was wondering if it would even be worth it. I don't want to buy a car that's going to cause a ton of problems for myself. They only want 6000 for it, and I'm planning to try and get it for even less. Thank you for your time, and I'm sorry if this is a repost, I just haven't found anything specific enough to help me.

Like with any car no matter the mileage, it depends on how well it was maintained through out it's life. 100k miles on an LS1 isn't bad at all, just got broken in if you ask me. Is this a 6 speed car? Have any pics of it? Completely stock? Before you start modding the car, expect to do routine stuff to it, like full tune up, timing chain, brakes? tires? bushings? Stuff like that. I would test drive it and low ball the **** out of a dealership.

Here's the car. Its an automatic but its between this and a 94 LT1 Camaro. The camaro has 75000 miles but ide much rather have this.

Edited because the previous link didn't work.

Looks pretty good. On the test drive just pay close attention to everything and keep track of the faults with the car. It will help with your low balling pitch. Good luck. Worth at least 5k.

Yep, at that mileage it's going to need some stuff. These engines might last forever, but there's lots of other normal wear items that will likely need to be done soon if they haven't already. Nothing specific to these cars exactly, just general parts that wear out or have worn out by that range of mileage on any car. In other words, just don't expect it to be totally trouble free from day one. It will likely need some attention in the near future.

Suspension parts will wear first way before electronics. Plan on replacing everythingthat has rubber bushing IMO.

OP that car looks pretty nice but like everyone else has already stated.. There is still a lot to maintain outside the motor. Maybe try looking in the for sale section here. But if you drive the car and feel confident in it then I say go for it! You will love it!

Well the beautiful thing about him buying it from the dealer is he'll get a 1-3 month warrently right from the dealer (depending on the state and local laws) and if anything should come up, they'll have to fix it for free.

I'd jump of it for $5500 but its definitly worth what there asking. Just replace those tires first thing. Kumho esctas are the cheapest all-season tires on the planet, I wouldn't put those on a geo metro!!

Looks nice. . . . . I would consider it a decent buy if it looks good in person. . . . . Also, look at the out the door price. Every stealership will try to work BS fees in no matter what.

5,500 is okay. . . . . . Just a comparison, I bought my bone stock 98 z28 with 66k for 6700 almost 2 years ago. . . . .

If you look around a bit, I think you can get quite a bit more for a little bit more cash.

Id check it out thoroughly, see if you can get the service records, and a carfax of course. I was thinking 6000 would be a lil much considering the miles, id go 5000 to see if they would take it.
