Default Caution: An LS6 swap could happen to you...

So this nasty tapping started coming from the LS1, and after checking the rockers and oil pan (no bits of metal), I was thinking I must have collapsed a lifter at about 100k miles. So what to do?

If I have to take the heads off to fix the lifter, then I gotta change swap the heads, cam, and valve train while I've got it torn apart, right? $$$

I ought to swap in at least an LS6 intake, don't you think? $$

The water pump and oil pump need replacing by now, huh? $$

Thinking about those old rings and connecting rod bolts, I can't push those any longer...$$$

I might as well get a new rotating assembly while it's completely stripped down...$$$$

Doh! Just get a new LS6 crate motor

...and pull that LS1 that's been run hard and put away wet a few times.

Dropping it out the bottom is definitely the easy way to go

Now I have the 243's, LS6 intake, new hollow stem valves, and a bigger cam, PLUS a 24k warranty (woo hoo).

LOL...which is it?

A) You didn't get that it was a joke, and you actually think I swapped my LS1 for a new LS6 because a lifter was collapsed.

B) You don't like jokes, and sneer anyone who tries one.

C) You think an LS6 is idiotic choice of engine to run while removing and rebuilding an LS1.

D) You find it fun to discourage anyone who posts in the Newbie section.

BTW - we can picture what you do in the car with your right hand......how is ol' Rosey?

no offense, but you're kind of being childish. Don't like his thread? Don't read/post.

You can get a GMPP crate '04 LS6 for about $5700 and a new LS1 is about $5400 (just find the cheapest dealer semi-close to you on the GMPP dealer list, and they'll still probably need to order it; it only takes a couple of days). You can also find rebuilt long blocks for about $4000.

The 04 LS6 comes absolutely complete with the newer fly-by-wire TB and vette Z06 clutch assembly. Anyone want a never-used Z06 clutch and flywheel? I'm rebuilding my McLeod and resurfacing the flywheel.

$5700 isn't bad; clutch, tb, injectors, coil packs. Damn!! I was looking into getting an ls6 when my ls1 decides to go. Hopefully no time soon tho...

Guess you could always sell the parts you dont need to offset some of the cost.

The Z06 clutch assembly that came attached to the 04 LS6 scored a couple of lines on the bell housing when it was bolted on for a test fit. GM said the clutch was for a vette, and it's dual mass flywheel and torque tube won't align properly with the 2000 F-Body T56. I'd never heard that before, but I wasn't unhappy to rebuild the McLeod and resurface that flywheel. ( lol, I probably would have been upset if I had expected the motor to come with a clutch assembly, but it was a total surprise) But I guess you didn't have any trouble, 99LS6SS; did you get it from GMPP?

I also had to replace the fly-by-wire TB with my LS1's cable-driven TB. (I kept my LS1 harness and PCM)

You get a 24k mile warranty with the new LS6, so I'll just be running bolt-ons and a tune until it expires. ...I'm pretty psyched about the hollow stem valves, too.

Any reason you chose to go with the LS6 as opposed to the LS3? They seem to be pretty similar in price.

The LS3 was a couple of grand more, and it came with a lot of compatibility unknowns (at least for me), but it is a stronger engine... The LS6 fit my HP goals, and I' more comfortable modding it.

Yeah, but it actually weighs about 50 lbs more according to the Engine spec sheet. Looking at the back of the LS1 dropped from the car above, it looks like a monster with the headers on...
