Default oil change gone bad

I had my oil changed one day and the tech put 6 quarts in my car instead of the 5.5 quarts it called for. He said it wouldn't hurt it. Is this true?

Won't hurt a thing, many people use 6 quarts without a problem.

Some actually recommend running about 1/8" over the full mark at operating temps.
