Question Best way to spend money on an LSX series to make great power?

Im considering throwing in an LS1 or LS2 into my Nova over the next few years, im just getting my ducks in a row first. My question is, what are the best mods to do first to get about 550-600hp?

Keep in mind that it WILL be procharged one way or another.

so for all you LS guys out there, what would YOU do first?

Any info or suggestions are appreciated! Thanks

You should look into doing a lq9 iron block then. The ls1 and ls2's are pretty high compression for boost..... But if your goal is to just slap a procharger on it you can get a ls2 with a 224/224 cam and at 10psi you should be hitting damn close to 550 at the tires with ease.

nuff said!. now, arent the LQ9's the truck engines? if it is would it benefit from an ls1 or ls6 style intake? beside that the truck ones are butt ugly lol

Yes, the lq9 is out of the escalade. And you can bolt the ls1 or ls6 intake right on it. I would recomend the ls6 because they flow much better then the ls1 intake. Or even look at a FAST intake for maximum results.

If your gunna stick with a LS based moter go with the ls2 tho. They are a little bigger displacment and will handle more then the ls1. I have a buddy with a TT ls2 pushing 600 and no problems.

ok cool

thats the original plan is to go with an LS2/4L60E out of a GTO, and put a custom ground cam in it and a procharger. but that will get very expensive quickly, and the LQ9's can be had for cheap!

so, an LQ9, LS6 intake,90mm TB? custom cam, maybe slightly ported heads if need be, and a procharger with about 10psi. sounds do-able!

Thats the way I would go. If you do, do the ls2 and the gto's came with a
4l65e trans. A stock 4l65 trans can handle around 500 to the tires so it would need a little beefing up if you plan on hitting 600 with it.

oh ok i didnt know they were 65's, i thought it was still the 60's. and ofcourse ill have the tranny built, thats a MUST for me, my TH350 shakes the intire dash of my nova when it shifts, occasionally knocking off my radio's faceplate!, and i can spin through 2nd and chirp 3rd from about a 40 roll w/ my LT1 lol. ill have the 4L65 built just like that! I love it!

Hell mite want to look at a super vic or vic jr. since it will fit without cutting up the cowl, and look sweet and keep it old school looking but with a procharger huffing down its neck. with a custom cam to go with that carb style intake.

both of those intakes would be an awesome addition as well, would really help that engine a lot. There was a guy at the speed inc open house with a 70 malibo with a junkyard ls1 with a vic jr and twin turbos, car was a total sleeper and he said he went 11.0 with it. Car was making mad power!

plenty of time to do it right. No reason to rush anything. The more you rush the more **** you break.

If you haven't already, start pricing out all the electronics and fuel system. I almost passed out.
