Default SLP Lid fitment question...

I installed my SLP lid last night and had a question about fitment. Everything is tightened in properly as far as the clips and the tabs that the lid slides into, but there is still a small gap on the rear left side of the lid (near the neck. I can touch the side of the air filter if I really try to. Now the paper filter I have has a gasket built into it and I made sure that I installed the sealing strip in the back of the lid, but I think there is likely still a small gap where unfiltered air could still be getting through.

Am I being too much of a perfectionist here? I'll double check the fitment today, but I'm almost posiive it couldn't get any better. I think either I should tape off the gap to play it safe, or possibly look into a different air filter. Thoughts?

The slp lids seem to be hit or miss on alot of these cars. Mine fit funky at first but after a few days of driving I guess the heat of the engine bay settled it in. You might try loosening the lid completely, taking off the maf-tb hose and see if you can tweek it some like that or just check after a few days of driving and see if it'll settle itself in. I have since swapped to a FTP lid and it fits like a glove. GL

Mine fits perfect, like a glove. Can you post a pic.

I think you are right. Would you worry about those little gaps, though? They still might be sealing inside but I just can't tell for sure.

I'm pretty sure that this one is sealed underneath

I know you can't see jack, but this is the spot I had mentioned where
there is a small gap.

If I remember correctly, outside of the clips the rim of the lid is supposed to be outside the filter box, but inbetween the clips (center) is supposed to be tucked inside the filter box. I cant tell from the pics but is this how you have it?

I have the lid mounted flush with the filter box. Maybe this is why I'm in the noob forum...lol That corner pic I posted should help someone make sure if I put it on wrong or not. The pieces that slide in on the back of the lid seem to fit fine, though.

Yeah the pics help alot. The lid isnt on right like mentioned. The top of the lid on the front side should lap over the bottom of the air box. Try that and see if that gap in the rear seals up.

Just to be sure, like so?

The gap in the back is now larger in between the plastic pieces, but the gaskets line up so it is sealed.

or...

I had one person telling me over and the other saying under in the middle. I think the second one is correct; the fitment in the back doesn't look right with it over.

Lid to be BEHIND the lower base in the front.
Don't listen to anyone who tells ya to bring the lid forward, ...
And you shouldn't need extra foam gaskets in there.
The paper element & the lid only should be sufficient.

I have it good now. I'm not sure of the seal is perfect, but it's as close as I can get it with this lid.

I just hated the way the lid and my maf fit... was hard as hell to get on there. Had to file the lid a bit.

I was able to do it with the hair dryer trick, it still took a lot of muscle to get it to fit, though.

Btw, if anyone could post a pic of the front and back of their lid seated properly, that would be helpful. I want to see how well mine fit from the factory, relatively speaking.

The fitment of mine is absolute dog ****. The lid doesn't fit over the bottom portion, the clips will not lock in place unless I tuck the lid inside the bottom half and there is a big gap in the rear and you can see the filter. The smooth intake boot barley fits over the MAF and TB to tighten down. Almost wants to slid off. I was really surprised at this being it runs $300 plus dollars. If I had known it would have turned out like this I would have passed on it. I tweaked around with it for hours too.

Your definitely confused, ...
The SLP aftermarket lid is NOT $300. Typically between $60/used-$100/New.
The SLP/Donaldson Blackwing is usually ~$300, but it fits like an OE glove.
Again, the front of the lid should be BEHIND the front lip of the lower base.
Did you get the rear tabs to fit into the openings as required?
Do you have the extra foam gasket in there? If so, remove it, throw away the K&N & use a standard paper element.

I think you may have confused him for me. First, there is no foam gasket, I was just referring to the rubber edge of the paper filter that presses up against the bottom of the lid. The lid did come with a piece of adhesive tape, which I placed along the back inside of the lid, per the instructions to help make a good seal there. Basically, I know that it is in correct now, the front lip is tucked into the lower base between the clips, and everything is tight. There is still a gap in the back, so I've come to the conclusion that the fit just isn't that great. I do think that it is sealed well in the back, but if you look closely you can see the edge of the filter.
