Default Which one to buy a 6.0 or 5.3?

I hope this is the right area to post this. This is my first post here. First off i have a 98 Sonoma pickup with a 424 small block on E-85. Well it blew up two weeks ago and delayed the races for 30 minutes. So, now i want to build a LS style motor. I can pick up a 5.3 or a 6.0 motor at the salvage near my home with all of the wiring ect. But, what year and modle is the best platform to start with? I will probably leave the short block stock for a while. This is a race only truck that weights 3000 lbs with steel heads and me in it. I like to go fast so, what should i get? I also plan on using the turbo or supercharger i currently have. Thanks, Tim

at least 10's in the 1/4. It would look stupid to have a full cage in the truck and run 13's.

If going iron block in Ls motors, go for the "mac-daddy". Muuuuuch more potential for power. 5.3 is not bad by any means, actually pretty tough. 6.0 is the best base for power.

Thank you. How much power can you make and keep the motor in one piece with a proper tune?

If its all the same.. the larger bore on the 6 litre will breath better with less valve shrouding issues. Since you are looking to run 10s, its a relevant point to consider.
Hope this helps,

More cubes the better, get the 6.0.

I heard of people using stock iron blocks and stock cranks to 1000HP and being ok with a good tune.

For boost, the LQ4 motor is the one you want...it has dished pistons as opposed to the LQ9's flat tops.
