Question Leak in rear end, money's tight...

What do I do? I don't think it's a bad leak, not finding any fluid in my parking space- but you can definitely see it on the car itself... Is there a stop-leak I can add or anything like that that will help me avert an expensive repair? I'm a noob at this stuff, help me out here guys. What am I lookin at?

Rear pinion seal more than likely. No, there isn't stop leak you can use and I wouldn't recommend it if there was. It isn't that hard to change out but you do have to be careful. If you don't really work on your car I wouldn't recommend changing it yourself.

The seal itself is only like $12 from the auto parts so it won't cost too much to have a shop put it in for you.

it's either the pinion seal or the cover gasket. is it leaking from around the diff cover gasket, or the part of the diff where the driveshaft enters?

Not really sure where it's leaking from, I need to find a carwash that does the underside of the car...

Go to a self serve car wash or use a garden hose and hit the diff with water and clean off the dirt yourself and see where it builds up. Don't need a auto car wash to clean the rear end.

Where ever this leak is from, so long as it's not leaving spots on the ground, then it's minor enough that you can just keep adding fluid to the diff (whenever it gets low) until you can fix it.

The fluid level should be right up to the bottom of the fill plug hole on the passenger side of the diff housing.

pinion seal leaks are common on these cars. not a big deal though. most likely if you replace it itll leak again anyway. just keep an eye on it.

Cool, thanks guys. I appreciate the wisdom, hopefully it is just a seal- and at least now I know what to look for and won't get taken for a ride at the shop...
