can it be done? advise
so i will be buying a pretty much stock ls1 6speed z28. a lid is pretty much all it has. i have about $1500 to play with give or take a little. now would a h/c/i package get me close to 500whp. how close? if not, i thought about saving a little more and buying a d1sc head unit and making the kit myself. what would yall do?

I'd go with a set of trickflow heads if you decide H/C/I setup, however $1500 ain't gonna cut it. If I were you I'd save up some more, but the right setup will be key to hitting 500. OR you could save up and just throw a turbo or supercharger on it and hit it easy depending on what you go with.

Just about everything your asking can be found here.

Exhaust is needed for that money not including the topend minimal. Full exhaust will run close to $1000, then a clutch and you aren't even into to anything other than bolt ons and you've already spent close to over $2000 prepping for 500whp if you do all the work yourself. No it can't be done. Like said above, start saving fella.

You'll need to do your homework and $1500 bucks will barely get you a fast intake and tb...not saying you'll need one but i wouldnt run anything else on an aggressive heads/cam setup(which is what you'll need)...plus dont forget the exhaust you'll need first which will probably be somewhere in the area of $500-1000 depending on what brands, used or new parts you'll buy....plus the the $300-500 dyno tune you'll need after the heads/cam install.

Like said above $1500 will get you exhaust, a lid, and an ls6 intake. A cam swap alone will run you another $1500 if you do it yourself, a good set of heads will run anywhere from $1k to $2k. Now you got all this power, but no way to put it to the ground so now you need suspension, sfc's, bigger swaybars, control arms, springs, shocks, torque arm, and the list goes on and on. Have fun modding.
