Default gettin my car tuned...

well ive heard good things and all about getting it tuned ull make a few more hp, better mpg and run better so ive been trying to get it done some were, had a guy i knew said he could get it dyno tuned by a friend and said it would put it around 370-400hp, im stock atm minus full exhaust and volant cold air/ram air intake, tbh gettin a 50-80hp gain (heard these cars come from factory roughly with 320 ish to the wheels, what im judging off of) from just dyno tuning and not adding anything dosnt sound real but, is this legit and if so will any tune be = or does it have to be a full dyno tune, only reason im asking is this guys fallin through, hes not getting back to me and all, and is $200 a good price for this or no? and if i was to ship my cpu out to some one will it be the same and worth doing at this point in time or is it worth waiting till i get heads and cam possibly, but not in the near near future?

$200 bucks for a dynotune is a great deal. But 50-80rwhp from a tune with those mods is highly unlikely. These cars stock will put down between 295rwhp-320rwhp so with those mods you'll be looking at about 335-350rwhp after the dynotune.

As far as sending out for a mail-order tune goes, a dyno tune will always do better. I've heard of people having problems with mail-order tunes but its a cheap and slightly effective way to go.

Two questions....

- When you say "full exhaust" do you mean headers + ORY as well, or just catback?

- What trans type do you have?

With those mods, your power estimate is totally impossibile for an A4 car, and highly unlikely for an M6 (even with LT headers and ORY). Assuming you have headers/ORY, I'd say that ~33x would be more likely with an A4 and 35x with an M6. Without headers/ORY, you can knock about ~20rwhp off that estimate.

If you have headers, the dyno tune might be worth it now. Otherwise, I'd wait till you have more serious mods (no point in tuning twice), unless you never plan to do any further modding and want the absolute most power possibile from the stock setup. Gains on a stock engine are marginal on average.

right now it has full legnth headers to ORY to borla catback 3inch all the way back, no cats (one reason i want it tuned), and just the intake, and i would like to get cam and heads but not sure if it will happen and if it does wont be anytime soon, not enough spare $$ kickin around atm, had paycheck problems :\

IMO, you're still considered stock in my book (minus headers, obviously). No way in hell you're gonna get to 370 with a tune. I'm thinking more around 335 with a tune on your current set up. I'm more conservative when I talk about mods though, I don't expect anything big whenever I mod.

What year is the car? An '01/'02 (with LS6 intake) can make 35x at the wheels with LT headers, ORY, good catback or cutout, lid, and dyno tune. Any more than that is dreaming though.

Huh? Why would that be?. I know w/ mail orders u can change the tune for cheaper, not so sure about dyno...if your tuning a cam,etc it will be almost double the price.

A lot of tuners will charge less for the re-tune but it depends on what mods you are tuning for. If you get a cam, the tuning is a lot more complicated, therefore might cost more.

If not doing the cam I would get an LS6 intake first, then get the tune & be done with it for a while. Well for another year anyways. Thats usually how its goes for most of us.

Not trying to hijack but what's a fair price for a dyno tune of a full bolt ls1? The cheapest I found near me was $435

ya that was my thinkin, grab a fast intake mani or ls6 havnt decided yet, and throw that on my self when i get it, O and speaking of if i get like a bigger intake and tb diameter (like a 90/90 set up or 102)will i NEED a tuning? and would a bigger MAF be needed? but ya just throw the intake on and chill till i get a cam in it, probably keepin stock ls1 heads for now, just get new push rods, valve springs and lifters with cam

My heads and cam dyno tune is only costing me $400 (this thursday ) bolts on from the three places i asked was i believe $250-300

I'd keep searching or maybe widen the area your searching a drive to a better tuner might be worth it for the same price if you cant find an cheaper.

my $.02

When i purchased my 102 mani and tb things got more complicated and i had to go with a SD tune. So keep that in mind as your tuner might not have much experience tuning off the IAT and Map sensors on an fbody and i believe i've heard of some charging head and cam rates for any SD tune, but this could be hear say. I wouldn't know mine was a head and cam tune. Hope this helps.

Might consider picking up a Fast toys Ram air also.

Yes exactly.

But to be honest you sound like your not chasing every last horsepower like i was. You should just port you stock throttle body lS6 intake and tune maybe an underdrive pully if you can splurge but if you shop around for LS6 and port the TB yourself you can get out pretty cheap

Look into the Fast Toys Ram Air and Under drive pullys. After that i think you will be satisfied.... at least for a little bit

ya im not lookin to spend top dollar to get every amount of power its got but i do plan on probably gettin cam ls6 intake and maybe TB, are the under drive pulleys worth it then u think? and i would have to get a overdrive pulley on my alternator correct?
