Newbie question 1: Recommended oil viscosity
Being completely new to LS1s and my car not coming with a factory owners manual, what is the recommended oil viscosity on a 2000 LS1? I know some of these newer motors use some pretty light weight stuff and I don't want to risk bearing damage by running something too thick.
Also, how many are running synthetic? I usually run Mobil 1 on my cars but sometimes stock seals aren't up to snuff for that stuff. Currently it leaks none that I'm aware of and I'd like to keep it that way...

I've used M1 in all my vehicles with no leaks,09 Acadia,02 WS6,91,T/A,etc,etc.I even started using it in one of my work vans(99 3500 Express) that had 113k on it 6 years ago,and it hasn't leaked a drop to this day.
Have used M1 in my 91 T/A since the 90's and no problems either. It's my son's car now and still no issues.

The manual recommends 5w30, or 10w30 under certain weather conditions.
You can also use 0w30 and 0w40. I use M1 0w40, been doing so for many years now without issues. LS1s tend to like an oil that's on the thick side of a 30 weight, or the thin side of a 40 weight. Many oil test results over the years have shown this.
