Default what is a damper

I was wondering what a damper is? Do they make any with magnet triggers for a ls1 crank?

So what is a balancer. When do you need it and why? ATI has one with magnetic pickups but I don't know what a damper or a balancer does?

It's the lower crank pulley. LS engines are typically zero balanced so they aren't really balancing the motor. A dampner will absorb some of the harmonics produced by the engine at RPM.
