Default Dip stick?

Why is it a two-piece? I was thinking the other day what if this broke off?

Oil? If the bottom portion isn't coming out you can try removing the dip stick tube by removing one bolt and pulling it out of the pan.

I don't know for certain. I would assume it is so GM can use the same handle portion and swap lengths of the dipsticks themselves between vehicles. However, I have never seen one come apart. Not much for them to get hung on.

I have always had this weird notion, like what if I stuck it right into the rotating assembly!! I know its not possible but I always think about it when I put it make. I'm just a little OCD
