Default Rear main seal, question!!!

Okay someone is telling me that you don't have to drop the tranny and such to do the rear main seal, and that you can just drop the pan and get to it on my T.A.

This makes no normal sense to me... but is it true?

Negative, the engine or transmission one will have to come out of the way to change it!

Actually can you tell me if you NEED the tool to put in the seal or can it be done without it by hand? JW. Some people say you ABSOLUTELY need that tool.

Our techs don't use that tool and we've never had any problems with them! But they've also done quite a few of these and have some more experience to guide them in the process.

Yeah I heard you gotta be real careful not to flip the lip or what not. Guess we shall see. I have a friend doin it with me who's done the rear main in his other car.

You don't need any special tool to do it. I dropped the tranny in my garage, pulled the cover off, pulled the seal out then put a new one on by setting it on the cover evenly then apply even pressure to install.
