Default Free LS1 - Gen III, Now what?

I got a free Gen III LS1 from my dad. It was pulled from his 99 camaro several years ago, 60k miles on it. He ended up getting a different engine and just gave this to me. The problem is that it is all in pieces. I have the block, internals and the heads, but thats it.

I am going to put this in my 66 chevelle and need to figure out what I need to get this engine running. Everything looks great on it. I am going to change all the bearings and put it back together.

Since I am such a newbie, what external parts do I need for the top end of this engine. Intake, injectors, harness with computer etc. Are those parts really expensive or what? Is it better to find a donor car?

Any help is very much appreciated. Here are some pics of what I have.

A donor car would be ideal. Harness and computer are important but there are plenty of little things that would come up that a donor car would provide.

Just whats in the pictures. Only internal parts. My dad used the camaro as a race car and swapped out the blocks. So he used all the external parts.

Can the harness come from a v6 with just a reflash of the computer, or I have to find a z28 parts car?

Just trying to figure out where to start with this project. Searching craigslist and not even sure what I should be looking for.

A 99 z28 would be what you want in a donor car. A later model would be fine but 98's are slightly different. Look for wrecked 99-02.

Starting to think the Edelbrock EFI to Carburetor Conversion Kit will be less of a hassle than trying to find everything for this engine or big bucks on a donor car.

Check out the classified section on this site. There are cars being parted out on there all the time. You could find the wiring harness, computer, coil packs, injectors, etc then finish it off with whatever intake/tb setup matches your goals.

A lot of the truck parts will work and used they are cheaper. It all depends on what you want from the car based on how you build it and what it is going into. For a low budget swap you could consider a pre 1974 muscle car project and just use a carb but putting it into a newer car with a carb is out of place.

Its going into my 66 chevelle. I would like to get at least 400hp. The better mpg from the efi would be great. But the cost is making me have second thoughts. Since I not only need the harness etc but I need to change over the fuel system.

Looks like people are asking around $350 just for the harness. The Edelbrock carb conversion kit is $699. Plus $200 or so for the carb. Debating

I think the edelbrock set up is the best path to pursue.you will need to resize the rods.consider a new cam pkg from a vendor, cam, springs, harden push rods.look at the TSP website for prices so you can figure out your budget.
