Default ls1 upgrades

im a owner of a 98 ss 6 speed, and i was wondering if with mild cam, intake, throttle body, headers, underdrive pulley, could i achieve 380 to maybe 400 hp at the wheel, and if not, whats the best approach without too much internal work, i have also been considering turbos, and how would i be able to boost stock???? anything will help greatly thank you!!!

if u get a cam.. your going to require alot of other things: Complimentary heads, hardened push rods, lifters, intake + matching tb (up for debate), lid, LT's, shorty mid pipe ( orx or ory w/ cutout ) catback, beefed up rear end.. and ofcourse a GOOD tune.. id also consider motor mounts..

I wouldnt use a udp.. but thats jus me.. or boost it without any internal work done.. but thats just me

others will chime in with better opinions

I say a 228-230 cam with those mods you have listed with a tune and your around 375-380. (I'm sure you know with a cam swap your gonna wanna upgrade valve springs etc) If you want 400rwhp or more just go with heads too other-wise a moderate to extreme cam will get you close if not there alone with supporting mods.

Ya you won't see 400ish w/ a mild cam unless you have heads to go with it and supporting mods.

All depends on the tune and what kind of condition the engine is in. A 228 cam like mentioned above should get you in the 380whp range with all the supporting mods. If you want 400whp you will probably need a bigger cam, not saying it hasn't been done but it's not as easy. For 400whp cam only personally I would go with a TSP Torquer V2 or call Geoff at EPS and see what he recommends.

He isn't going to make it to 400rwhp with just a cam and supporting mods unless one of the mods is a set of heads. Seeing how your about bone stock have you looked at a Procharger setup. You could reach your goal without any internal mods.

Think you already have 3.73s? I would stick with those until your ready to invest in a 12 bolt or 9" to change gears.

My plan as far as power gaining mods only - long tube headers, y-pipe, catback, lid, throttle body, intake manifold, cam - something like a TSP 224R or 228R, that should get me pretty close to my goal of 375rwhp but I'm in an A4 so I might not quite make that.

Including other work I'm hoping to run mid 12's with that setup

yo if u want to grenade your engine try that setup u posted

if u want to add a camshaft to your car you need supporting mods, like i listed above

https://ls1tech.com/forums/new-ls1-o...anna-fast.html

^^ this gives u an idea of what you need in order to reach good rwhp goals

through my experience, full exhaust + lid is a great start w/ a tune, then you can add ur gears, followed by a beefy rear end.. i'd do all of this before you do a heads/cam setup.. remember u need supporting mods AND complimentary heads.. or else your engine wont handle an idle properly and never make any power throughout ur power band.

if u want gears, and ur a m6, 4.10 is a good choice. I have 3.73 and its a noticeable difference

full mods and a 224/228r cam pkg should make 375,who will tune it.do you have a stock clutch?you will need better rod bolts if you want to boost it.some used 243/799 heads ($400) with tr224 or EPS 222/226 cam can make close to 400.you will need a ls6 intake($300) with a ported TB($70),and a good cold air intake (cai).check out TSP,thunder racing ,or the ws6 store to start.ask alot questions before you buy any thing.

heres my budget build which i can start hopefully this spring when my baby comes out of storage.
Pacesetter 1.75"-$400
Custom off road X- $250ish
ls6 intake-$300-$400
243/799 heads, $400, $300 if your lucky
Undecided cam, will be talking to texas speed. $600
tune-$400?
This should defiantly put you into low 400's, no heads, 370sh
Its goanna be about $2500 for a nice street build, $3000 if you add some various supporting mods.

okk so what the best overall approach, i would like to make around 380-400 whp, i think anything after that is too much for the street( all that power, cant really use it, i use the car frequently, dont want to make it into a project)
