Default 500rwhp help

I have a 02 convertible vette with x pipe borla exhaust and a tune. I want to add an aggressive cam and heads and headers to get at least 500 rwhp. Any ideas what i need to buy.

Just look in the dyno forum or the ls1 or ls7 tech forum. You can get that with 347 cubic inches but it is a stretch. Better off to at least stroke the ls1 block to 383 will make it easier. A ls2 ls3 or ls7 block all increase your cubes. As much as the motor you will need the supporting mods, fuel intake and exhaust.

ANYWAY. It will be hard to get 500RWHP out of a ls1. You will defiantly need the biggest headers you can afford, if your on a budget, TSP 1-7/8" will do...if you have money, then go all the way to 2 inch.
You will also need CNC'd ported heads+a matching cam, id suggest calling texas-speed and telling them about your goals, and asking their input to meet your goal.

This. Also you have to pay attention to every detail. Fly cutting will also be needed in order to run a biger cam and mill the heads for a bump in compression. Are you a auto or M6?

I think there is a sticky post about this. Do a search.

With drivability got to think CI! You didn't mention FI. A built LS1 with a turbo or minimum 408+ NA. If I had to do it over, I'd do 427.

Sorry to thread jack but RyanWs6 isnt your bird in HPP this issue if it's your OMFG awesome job.

Back on topic now, there is a sticky about how to get 500 rwhp out of a 346 and it's by patG on here and I believe it's titled "recipe to 500rwhp n/a" but also for the parts list it will be a spendy build as that's allot of power to get out that many cubes. Forged internals with details on balancing and building for lots o revs. It's probably the route I'll take with the block in my garage since it would be nasty fun when you lay into the loud pedal.

Building for FI and building for all out NA are completly different. Why not just build towards a FI setup now so you don't have to re-do a bunch of stuff?

99French, yes it is. Thanks, some things were missed like my build # but glad you like it. So you can see my goal was 500 too. I think I know a bit how to get there since I went through several setups to obtain this goal.

If FI is in the future then 500 is easy. Like Z racer says, consider max 10:1 CR, then its just a bolt on. Keep in mind the setup may run 420-450 now.

I ordered stage 2.5 ls6 heads with the torquer v3 cam an underdrive pulley and headers and x-pipe from texas speed. Hopefully that will make some good numbers.

will definetly make some good numbers but wont get you to the 500hp.

the IRS handicaps you a little in hp so what f bodys make with same mods you will not, your only benifit is being able to run some huge true duels.

id guess its ganna get you in the 440 hp range thats what my buddys z06 runs with simular mods exept he has a ms3 instead of tq3

Just do all the bolt-ons you can get. Put a decent size cam in there and a good flowing set of heads. That could easily get you 410-440 depending on your head/cam choice. Then just spray whatever size shot it takes to make your goal. This is what I did and it works great for me. I DO NOT have heads though. Car/Mods in sig.

afr heads, trex cam, pulley, electric waterpump, full length headers, dumps, fast102/102, tstat, and ssra cai could net u close to 500 rwhp without n20, but if u get a stroker kit that prolly be a good way to do it too

The dyno above is of a 99 TransAm with stock unported cylinder heads, Thunder Racing's T-ReX v.2 camshaft, and a full package of bolt-on parts, including long tube headers, pulley, LS6 intake manifold, Whisper lid, ported throttle body. Dyno runs were on 93 octane gasoline and a factory steel flyweel.

hope that helps OP

yeah as i stated about 440 to the wheeles, you dont want to go to big with a cam to reach your goals cause then you lose the drivability of the car,

HOWEVER patrick G did achieve 500rwhp in his 347ci trans am but it was with a total engine rebuild and forged internals so if your ganna go that rout you might as well stroke it.

however you could duplicate his cam/heads and bolt on combo and get simular results
