Default dumping 6 banger to get an ls1

Selling my 2000 v6 camaro. Looking at a silver 98 z28 auto with 118k miles.has aftermarket ram air hood, Has borla exhaust, acr delete, egr pump delete, some gauge clusters, and a bad a/c compressor. Comes with z06 replica 17" wheels. Have the guy talked down to 4900. What problems should I look for? I probably won't keep the z06 wheels anyways, have some powdercoated black gto wheels im going to throw on it. Know I want to cam it, any other cheap power adders?

I'm assuming your going to daily this since your selling the v6. So I would suggest going very mild on a cam, no more than a 224int 228exh and stay well under a .600 lift so you can use single valve springs and have less wear and tear on ur 118k mile lifters. Since its an auto it will be great at the track with a torque converter but suck ***** on the street. So if you plan to daily it then keep the torque converter under 2800 and it shouldnt be too bad on gas. Also get an actual exhaust not some lame cat back junk. Headers into an x-pipe with dual exhaust dumped before the rearend is the best, but might be a little loud to some. Do all this all together and then have it tuned by a good reputal shop and its all good.

I would look for a 6spd to daily, cause that is the best and most fun though.

Those GTO wheels aren't an exact fit-I'd be careful with those...

Thanks! And I had a machine shop shave the wheel hub center down to what the z28 rim was. Perfect fit!

Condition of the 4l60e would be my first priority. If he owned it there should be some sort of matience schedule. Check for burnt fluid and see how it shifts. NO howling rear end.

The prices have really dropped in these cars so your going to find "deals".

When you drive you can hear a noise coming from the back of the car that is a whining/howling sound. Indicates that the gears in the rear axle are worn enough that they no longer mesh properly and your a couple hard launches away from getting a new one.

My old car made noise like that and one day shifting 1st to 2nd at full throttle I stripped about a 1/3 of the teeth off of the ring gear, and the pinion looked like it went through a kitchen disposal.

Or walk away as an unabused or well maintained car should not have a shot rear end, unless the jerk off swapped out the rear with a friends car... which has happened.

Hold up, my v6 does this. Doesn't do it all the time, and comes on randomly. Like a high pitched noise that just hums and goes off a couple minutes later.

There should be no humming in an F body unless it's from a female passenger. Any noises asides from that indicate a problem...

I just sold my V6 Mustang and bought a Trans Am for the trade-in + $3k. It's one helluva of a car. I can't believe how effortlessly it glides down highways

Did you go through with the deal?
