How much my car worth???
Hey guys, I am thinking about selling my 1998 black camaro Z28. Now now guys calm down, I am selling for a newer SS, gotta say, i just love the hood, and I think I want a 6 speed now. Well, my car is a hardtop, with an A4. I have a LM exhaust, SLP intake and subframe connectors, and a BMR stb. I also tinted the windows, and have about 3k into stereo. The car is in perfect condition with only 40,000 miles on it. So I was hoping for about 15,000, is this wishful thinking or could I get more. Just wondering your guys opinions on this one. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

When I bought my 98 SS last spring, the bank wouldn't loan anything over 12k for a 98 SS or WS6. I imagine that figure has dropped in the past year.
Go to kbb.com and look up the private party value of your car. Remove all mods then if you can get someone to pay that amount consider yourself lucky. F car resale value is rather poor.

Like he said, it is a buyers market for our cars right now. Your car would sell in the Midwest right now for like 9-10k. People will not pay for mods. Of course there are the exceptions out there, but they are few and far between. You are selling at the very bottom of the 4th generation market.

KBB is not a bad idea. The only thing is that it's not by region. So, in some places, cars sell for a little more than others. Maybe take a look at the local classifieds and see what others are selling similar cars for. I agree that people won't really want to spend more for mods, especially stuff like tinted windows, but it may help the car sell faster.
Good idea on the 6-speed

I just sold my 99' Firebird V6 for 8900.00. It took awhile to get a buyer and this was in excellent shape.
A V8 is a hotter seller. 9 out of 10 calls were asking if it was a V8.
1998 KBB for the Z should be about right. And it is a shame because the mods do not figure in with a bank and most people will be financing. I have included a couple of links:
http://www.nada.com
NADA in my Zip gave it a Retail of just over 12k
From Autotrader links:

Good Luck.

Based on Nada.com your car is worth give or take $12,800. Nada is what most banks base your loan rate on. I live in the midwest and right now fbodys aren't going for what they are worth. Maybe more towards summer. I just bought my "new" 1998 Formula WS6 M6 about 2 weeks ago. I got it for $2,500 less than what Nada.com listed at 14,800. And that is from a dealer. Your best bet is to wait until right about late April-mid May, and put it up for your highest bid. Sorry to tell ya around here 98 z's are going for $9-10k. Good luck.

Hey guys,
Thanks for all the replies. Maybe I will just keep my car, or put it up for sale and wait, and if it sells for what I want then take it, if not, drive and enjoy.

I would put it up locally around you.... Maybe the the autotrader or whatever. Be prepared to sit on it awhile, but there is an *** for every seat so someone will eventually buy it for what you are wanting. I would just drive it and enjoy it. At the auctions a car like yours is going for high 6k and low 7k, so add a few grand to that for the dealer's asking price. You will make the most money returning it to stock, if you are set on selling it. Good luck!

Just keep it and buy the SS hood. An A4 is a thousand times better at the track anyway. You'll never get you're money back for your mods. Case in point, I paid the retail value for my car, $10,100, with ALL the mods that you see in my sig already installed. Dealer even left the Hypertech Power Programmer III in the backseat. Cars are investments in your satisfaction, you'll rarely get financial reimbursement from them unless they're 30 yrs. old. Good luck.
