Default Engine Removal

Sorry guys, im really new to this whole site and not really sure if this is the right place to post this or not. Im looking for anyone who has removed the engine out of a 98-02 f body, to see if I can remove the engine out of the bottom in my garage with just jacks and jack stands, or if I need to pull it out of the top. I ask cause I hear going from the bottom is way faster and easier, just dont know if I have the room in the garage to go up that high. THANKS GUYS!! Again be gentle haha I'm new to this stuff!

Hmm..without a lift I don't really see you getting the car high enough to drop it underneath. Taking it out through the top isn't super hard but it does take more work. There's a bunch of write ups for both methods. I'd you search you can probably find them

I dropped mine out the bottom many times but I did it in the driveway so height wasnt as issue. I also have a flat cart that I would use. Id get everything taken off but the subframe bolts and trans mount, then id roll this under it and set the car down on it. Remove the trans mount bolts and subframe bolts and hook a chain to the shock towers (or radiator support if using a cherry picker) and jack the car up. With the cart I could eigther put the cherry picker on the side and roll the motor straight out or out the side.

just by reading the few that I have read already, I think that I am going to just pull everthing off the motor and try to pull it out the top instead. I know it's a lot more work, but again I dont think ill have the height inside the garage. Thanks guys, just by seeing that there are more than just a FEW that have pulled it out of the top. That'll be my route....the bloody knuckle way lol! btw this website is really helpful and informational! THANKS AGAIN GUYS!

Thats a pretty good idea man! If I were to this outdoors, this would be the route to take. To be honest, I might try it before I begin my bloody knuckle party haha

Da Fonz make sure you have a long reach cherry picker to make it easier to reach the center of the engine. I had just a regular cherry picker and had to do more than I wanted to, but it was still easier for me to do it out the top with taking all the stuff off and taking out the radiator. I could of made my cherry picker a longer reach but I had decided not to and was still able to do it, but involved taking the front bumper and stuff behind the bumper off.

take it out the bottom. Its so simple. i would pull trans and all. I have done over 250 this way and we do all of ours with a floor jack, 2 jackstands, and a cherrypicker. its super easy.

why the need for a cherrypicker, if your dropping it out the bottom? Isn't it all attached to the cradle so you could just roll it out?

the cherrypicker pulls the cars body up and allows the engine to roll out when on the cart

the bad thing about taking it out the bottom is the car needs to be realigned afterwards
