Unhappy Why does my 2000 T/A run like a 2000 GT?

This is my 3rd LS1 car. My last one was a 2001 SS with a TNT kit on it, and it ran fairly good, even when it was stock. Now I have a 2000 T/A WS6 and it is a true TURD! So, I put a small cam in it and had the heads ported and milled. I haven't recieved my LS1 edit yet or my headers but still, my car is soooooo sllllloooooooowwwwww! Will headers and tuning help out that much?

What happens when a car runs rich? I got on it on the interstate yesterday and I looked up and saw some black crap come out. I need some opinions so if you have time, please give me your 2 cents worth. Thanks for helping!

The black smoke could mean your car has issues but I'd at least get headers and get it tuned.

without the ls6 or lsxintake and some LT's you wont make power.

that engine needs airflow!

My 2000 WS6 is a beast and half, maybe you got some bad stuff goin on in the inside man, maybe check out all the small stuff and check your compression ratio on the cynlinders, make sure they are runnin good. Maybe make a post in the internals section asking bro.

Black crap coming out does not sound good.....
If I recall correctly: Blue smoke is gas and black is oil??? or is it the other way?
Either way you are burning something.

when does the black smoke occur. or is it a constant black cloud coming from your pipes. if it is only when you punch it it is proly just carbon deposits and i dont see a problem with that.

That black stuff could just be carbon.....happens with my car all the time if I floor it after not having floored it in a while. I guess it just depends on how much black stuff is coming out.

Wow sorry man you must have some internal problems. My 2000 WS6 is a beast and I haven't done hardly any mods to it.

What rear gears? When I was shopping they put me in
a Z/28 convertible and I was unimpressed with the
takeoff, but my 3.23-geared SS feels a whole lot more
sporty.

Black smoke is poorly burnt gasoline, oil is blue-gray.
Lean or rich misfires both make high hydrocarbons,
you've got to get the O2 readings to say which (or
if it's just blowing out accumulated deposits).
Minor rich just makes CO which you won't see.

If you've done heads and cams and haven't tuned yet, you probably aren't running anywhere near efficiently. I would get the car tuned straight away and once you know how it's really running, decide if you need to research anything more.

I think...

Black smoke = to much fuel (or just the carbon)
Blue smoke = waaaaay to little fuel
white smoke = oil burning.

something like that.

Lol. Or a Monday morning.

Are you sure its slow or maybe it just handles better or something and ride smoother and you think its going slow?

Black Smoke you got it right
Blue Smoke- burning oil
White Smoke - burning water (i.e. blown head gasket)

The oil smoke is white with a blueish tint to it not all blue.

.
Modding the car wrong could make it slower. Running extremely rich will kill power.

Get an intake/headers and get it tuned.

take it to the track and see what it runs, but first get it tuned and dynoed. U might just be expecting more out of it and comparing it to your SS on the spray, although a H/C ls1 should be right with a LS1 on the spray.
Good luck
