He's right there is no best. Really all you should worry about is changing the oil regularly. Most synthetics can last well over 3k... so if you change every 3k, you will be good. If you must hear some chocies, Mobil 1 and Pennzoil Ultra are both oils I have used in the past with no negative results. And I always use Mobil 1 filters... I use the larger sized one (m1-206)

I've always been a Valvoline man but I'm planning to try German Castrol, and I always use Wix filters they are some of the best filters available. If you can't find a parts store that sells Wix then get a Napa Gold, or Car Quest Premium filter, they are made buy Wix.

I'd use a good oil filter like a K&N for both the initial 20 minute break-in session and the first 500-1000 miles. Afterwards, my preference for extended oil change intervals would be the Mobil 1 oil filter with the synthetic media.
Since you've got a new GM crate engine, I'd recommend 10W-30 Valvoline VR-1 non-synthetic racing oil (high on protection, but low on detergents) for the initial break-in as well as your initial fill for the first 500-1,000 miles. Once the rings are seated, my preference would be a synthetic oil like Mobil 1.
Hope this helps! Enjoy your new engine.
