Heard that Heads only support 550?
I heard something about our LS1 heads only supporting 550 on the intake and exhaust or something...I'm getting my CAM delievered on Tuesday and it's a 232/232 .575 .575 112LSA and the guy said I'm not gonna be very happy with results because my heads aren't ported but once they are, I'll be happy.. this kinda worried me...can anyone explain it differently or give their own facts? Thanks

The stock LS1 heads are not a restriction, they flow pretty well for being stock. True, you will gain more hp/tq with some ported heads, but you will not be dissapointed with the performance with your cam/stock heads LS1. I don't know how much hp the stock heads will support, but there are people, like the guys at Thunder Racing, who are hitting around 450 rwhp with a cam and on stock heads. Who told you the heads would be a problem?

that's exactly what I was thinking.... Hey JRP, I put in 2002 pushrods from my friends WS6 when I bent my stock ones from 99...I know they are better than the 98-00 I believe, but how long would they last with my new cam when it's installed?

This guy who goes to my school, he supposedly ports heads and payed $3,000.00 for a 2 day class just to learn how to do it... I'm going to Sequoia Institute in Fremont California by the way

well I got them for free, and it was about 2 months ago...but I was just wondering how long they would last until I would have to get new ones...I'm gonna get them anyways, but I'm gonna have to wait another 2 weeks for a paycheck and I'll probably have my CAM in for at least one week before it comes in....will it hold?

If it would be only two weeks, then why not just wait? But I'm sort of impatient like that too.
But my advice would be that if you're gonna go with hardened pushrods. You should just wait and do them at the same time as the cam install..

SoloSport if you have already covered these then disregard....
For any LS1 with stock rockers and springs it is recommended to upgrade ASAP. With a CAM swap I would think it even more important, unless you swap the heads out completely (but why?). If you do the Heads, High Performance Pontiac recommends, 00' or later LQ4 6.0L truck heads made of cast aluminum 9:4:1 compression.
"Popular Hot rodding", "High Performance Pontiac", and "Car Craft" have recommended taking the stock Valve Springs, Pushrods, and Rocker Arms (stock has rollerized trunions which are known for spitting out their bearings and if you change your own oil and find these in your oil/oil pan there is a service bulletin with GM) and upgrading. I have also read and heard the stock pushrods and springs if you are pushing over 6k rpm then the upgrade is needed and they also suggest using LS6 valves.
Myself? I am waiting until my extended warranty is up and then I plan on having enough to handle all these and to tackle my trans.
But, I am sure we have others here that have tried and true answers.
For what irt is worth, my 2 cents.

for n/a applications you want the 5.7 heads (preferably 241) or some ported 5.3 heads 706 casting outfitted with bigger vavles. the only reason to go with 6.0 heads is for FI in which they lower your compression to 9.4:1 or so.
for any cam swap you need to swap vavle springs. retainers (if using 918's) , pushrods, and rockers are optional but recommend. unless your looking for the lightest valvetrain you can then ls6 vavles are not needed.
