Default Castrol Edge with Syntec 10w30 for summer, good choice or could've get a better one??

I just put Castrol Edge with Syntec 10w30 in my car for this summer, I was trying to decide also between Mobil 1 (cheaper) and Royal Purple (more expensive) but I went with Castrol (price in between), Please post your opinions!!!

You will be fine. Really all modern oils now do pretty well. Best way is to get a UOA from blackstone labs and test it after 3000 miles.

It should be perfectly fine. good choice. I know people who ran the a/c delco regular blend 5w30oil in their lsx engines, and they currently have more than 180,000 miles on their cars.

You'll be fine with that. I run mobil 1 full synthetic in both my car and truck.

If I drove my car more than 2k miles a years during the summer I would get that stuff (Castrol Edge) since I do not, I use Mobile Clean 5000 and works fine.

Hi All,

I thought I heard something that Mobile 1's quality has been dropping is there any truth to that? and if so are there any articals published to back this up?
I've been using Mobile 1 in my 02 WS6 T/A since day one and just want to be sure I'm using the best, any thoughts?

THANKS!

Marc

This is great advice. Many people have some suspect reasons for why they use a particular brand etc., they seem to fall prey to marketing. Pick a couple brands you feel comfortable with and have an analysis done on them when you change the oil. Choose the one with the best results for your car, as differing oils won't all respond the same.

Also, there's nothing wrong with conventional oil. Synthetics generally will benefit you with longer oil change intervals and better cold startup properties. Don't over think it too much, I've ran a handful of vehicles well past 200k on conventional without any oil related problems, it's all about proper maintenance. ...My wife's minvan has 248k on it as I speak.

Right now? I'm gonna go get my flame suit, I'm sure the synth guys we'll be gunnin' for me any minute....

Plenty of info on tech you just need to search for it. You often see it in engine specific section.

Bob the Oil Guy seems the best source but in the end Mobile One is over rated IMO and for most cars conventional works just fine.

Since I'm stationed in Germany, I'm gonna look for German Castrol, I've only read nothing but good things about it!!!

All those new syn. oils are good as long as you change it at regular intervals

The same brand you have but in a 0w-30 is the European blend (aka German Castrol) which has proven to be great in our engines.

Also, keep an eye out at Autozone and other chains, they often have the oil on sale with a filter for $30.
