Default Formula or Trans Am ???

Hey Peeps...

I have no idea whether my ride is a Firebird or a Trans Am. I dont have any decals besides the Trans Am logo on the tail-lights and the WS6 Emblem on the bumper. My title says its a Firebird Formula WS6 but it doesnt seem right.

Im including pics and hopefully somebody can help me settle this once and for all... Thx

if its the one in your avatar its a trans am, has trans am rear bumper in first pic. a trans am is technically a firebird formula trans am, formula just means it has a v8, trans am's just appearance upgrades, aka the bumpers side skirts hatch and has standard leather seats.

I can do that.

Your SPID sticker indicates "Y82", which would be the Trans Am package. It does not indicate "W66", which would be a Formula.

Furthermore, your build date is 04/02, making the car a 2002 (model year also confirmed by the "2" in the 10th digit position of the VIN) - a year in which the only WS6s were Trans Ams (Last WS6 Formula was built in 2000).

As the SPID sticker indicates "WS6" as well, what you have here is a 2002 WS6 Trans Am (so long as the VIN on that sticker matches the car's VIN).

The car also has the correct Trans Am front and rear bumpers, spoiler and side skirts.

Awesome... Yes, the VIN on the sticker does match the one on the car. I really appreciate the help.

Now off to find those door Emblems. -.-

Since you have the WS6 code on the door, I believe your car has the WS6 option.

Can someone explain the weights. What do each of these mean? GVWR 4283 GAWR FRT 2149 GAWR RR 2134. I always thought the heaviest car were 36xxlbs or so?

Gross weight includes everything, i.e. the chassis, powertrain, fluids, passengers, cargo, etc.

The 36xx would be curb (dry) weight. Just the chassis and powertrain basically

Nah, you have all the important stuff. Alot of people (myself included) think the T/A looks better without the emblems and the door trim, which is also missing, in case you didn't motice. Kind of a "less is more" school of thought. Looks like the car's previous owner agreed, and de-badged it.

With that wing, bumpers, and hood, there's no mistaking it for anything other than a T/A, so if it were my car I'd leave it as it is.
