Default Catalytic converters

I have a 2000 T/A automatic and I'm having problems. The car surges hard (like a kick in the back) from first to second and surges up and down in all gears at around 2500-3000 rpms. I have the check engine light on and had it checked (both banks reading low), I've been told it was the O2 sensors, fuel filter and the cats.... All by different people.... I'm thinking cats are plugged badly.... Just wondering what you guys think? If it is the cats... Should I gut them, cut them out or replace them? Thanks.

Does the problem only occur at 2500-3000rpm? What about above and below that rpm?

Only at those rpms....below that it's fine..... In park car will Rev normally , but in drive (moving) it doesn't seem to go above 2500-3500 rpms... Just Rev a little in between those rpms.... Car shifts fine, just between first & second (when I give it alot of gas) its like a kick in the back when it shifts(between 2500-3500 rpm) ... If I drive "easy" it will shift fine.

What about above 3500? Can you rev above 3500 in park?

Based on what you've said so far, I think clogged cats is the least likely of the possibilities you have listed.

First I'd want to know which exact codes you're getting. You said something about "both banks reading low".... what exactly on these banks is reading "low"? And what were the DTCs?

But based on what you've confirmed so far, I would first suspect the fuel system or MAF. Front O2s may be an issue as well but, without knowing the DTCs, less likely IMO. Cats wouldn't even be on my list yet knowing only what is known so far. But first thing is first, you should find out the exact codes and what exactly is reading "low".

I'd have to go back to autozone and get a print out of the codes(misplaced first one).... I hope it's MAF and fuel system... Those converters are EXPENSIVE!!!!
