Default what is high miles on a Ls1

How many miles is a lot for a Ls1 engine and how long can you race them on a 1/4 mile mine has 64,000

Not really any way to answer this. Mileage isn't the problem, it's wear. I engine with 50k miles could easily be in worse shape than a motor with 100K. Just depends on where/how it was driven, how it was maintained, was it ever sprayed or boosted, did someone tune it that didn't know what they were doing, etc..

64,000 is nothing as long as it wasn't beaten to death. Many people here have cars woth over 150k miles.

My '98 Z28 has 160k+ miles and is all original and still runs strong! As long as it's not been abused and dogged without maintenance 60k miles definitely isn't something to scoff at!

64k is well below average, and doesn't even come close to fitting in the "high mileage" category for a 10 year old car.

Going off the 12,000 miles per year average my 160k miles is still a little short of average.

I picked mine up with around 65k on it almost 5 years ago, and I'm at 117k now and she runs great.

In fact, I'm just now thinking I want to get into some moreserious mods, with long tubes and a new torque converter.

I pulled the 5.3L out of my yukon xl this winter due to a failing oil pump. The engine had 221,xxx miles on it. The cylinder walls still had cross hatches in them, I had the block honed and threw in a set of piston rings, lifters, oil pump, and timing chain. I REUSED the original rod and main bearings. They looked and mic'ed perfect. I have about 14,000 miles since the "rebuild" and have no doubt this truck will go 300,000 - 350,000 miles. These motors are beasts if you take care of them.

lol, i have 54,xxx mile on mine now. If thats too many miles to get into it a couple times a month im in trouble.....lol.

I think you'll be ok as long as the motor is healthy for a motor with 64,xxx miles on it.

64k is not high miles by any means, but it's been proven time and time again that higher mileage LS based motors 90k-100k+ are capable of taking some abuse. Just take a look into the Nitrous and Forced induction sections on here. I've seen quite a few guys pick up cheap, higher mileage, 5.3, 4.8, LS1, LQ4 shortblocks and spray or boost them to the moon and they're able to take the abuse quite well.
