Default How much slower does a car feel when it's hot and humid out?

I have only had my car for a few months, but man it feels sluggish when its really hot outside. Is the difference noticeable, or all in my head?

I've never really noticed with my SS, but I do know that my old Z/28 felt like a different car when it was hot and muggy out. I could tell it was slower just from driving it, and it also trapped about 2-3 MPH lower in the 1/8th.

My T/A gets like this sometimes. If its a really hot day outside and I've been driving it "spiritedly" for an hour or so then WOT runs the motor chugs a little bit and almost feels like a miss, but not near as noticeable or power robbing. But on nice cool nights it runs like a bat outta hell for hours on end.

Also- are you running the AC? AC definitely stresses your engine and can slow it down.

Unhappy

I lost 3/10ths and 2-3 mph since it got hot...compared to runs in March...

In cooler weather car goes 11.70-11.75 @ 115-116 very consistently
Now, in warm, humid air it goes 12.0 @112-113

So I'll be patiently waiting for Fall before I go back...lol.

If your car is auto you will notice a difference simply cause the tranny heats up <-- pretty sure. i have noticed this on all my vehicles that were auto that why i hate autos. throw an AUX tranny cooler on the car and bypass the built in cooler through the radiator(if these cars were built that way) and it should help. id place the cooler in front of the radiator if possible and rig up some kind of small fan.

Did this on my previous truck and noticed that in hot weather in AZ my tranny was at 200* and over when driven hard, after i did the AUX cooler and bypassed the radiator it never got over 170* even hammering on it in hot weather.

Didn't help in my case.

According to HPTuner datalogs, my transmission temps have always been (and still are) lower than my coolant temperatures.

FWIW, on the cool early summer mornings, both my car and my truck run noticeably better. Both still run very well, just not as well as when it's cooler, denser air.

I'm fairly new to the LS1 and LM7 engines, but I was always told that this was pretty normal on the LS based engines?

Definitely NOT just NA cars. You won't see a GN at the tracks down here from March until November, unless we get a cold spell. My old NON-GM supercharged cars also ran a lot better in the cool, low humidity days. ET slips don't lie.

On LS1's the ac is disengaged automatically when going WOT

Agreed, if anything NA cars have a leg up, because their not trying to shove hot humid air into an ever hotter turbo or SC and then trying to cool it down through and IC surrounded by hot sticky air...its just in and out

Yep, heat and humidity make a huge difference in power. They're a killer for FI cars even more so.
