First question are you removing for the room, or just ditching a/c to ditch it?

hole at the bottom is the a/c drain, the evaporator when it cools air it condenses the air and water droplets form on the evaporator and have to drain out, if you cut out the evaporator and leave a big gaping hole you probably won't have heat either, heater core and evaporator share the same blower motor so the blower will just blow air through the big hole instead of through your heater core

It does in order for the blower motor to work at it's full potential.

When I deleted mine, I made a block off plate, and used seam sealer from an auto body supply store. It works like it was factory.
