^^^ I've read threads about this subject already. I run the K&N FIPK... Gains are similar. Bit some will say the FIPK pulls in HOT air from the engine bay... I dnt disagree but at 70+mph it's all cool air coming into my hood my my SS... Just my opinion. I bet 100+ will disagree

SS hood is worthless...and so is the k&n. The best setup with any hood is a good lid and a ram air.

Me and my buddy swap intakes when he dyno his car and they wer only a couple HP different from each other. I just like the way the FIPK looks... EVERYBODY has a lid! With lid and LTs EVERY FBody engine bay looks the same lol... Isn't it true?

That is true...I like the lid, and good thing cause the k&n doesn't come in a 104 opening.

You'll have a bitch of a time keeping the filter clean if it's a DD. It'll look good outta the box, then after 2 weeks....You'll see what a filter actually does. Lids do look the same but you can alway's paint them (rattle can black metal metalic)

They will both produce the same gains, only reason why most people go with a lid is because its ALOT cheaper for the same power gains (which is 8-10 HP).

I'd do a ram air, I had an SLP "Ram Air" on my car which isn't the best one out there (it's for sale btw!) but I just bought a Fast Toys Ram Air off the classifieds for $50, just look and you can pick them up pretty cheap used.

After doing countless research on this board, I am going to run the Fast Toys 98mm (also known as there 85mm ID) lid along with the FTRA. I will eventually upgrade to an 85mm gm maf and better flowing intake manifold. You can purchase an adapter for the maf from fast toys so you are still able to run the stock maf with there lid as well. That way it will allow me "room to grow" when I decide to go heads/Cam and or larger displacement motor.

This is exactly what I have, the 98mm lid, I'm getting the FTRA in the mail this week, and I'm getting my 85mm MAF tomorrow after the insurance company totals my buddies z71 tomorrow I also got an ls6 manifold for free for installing a Typhoon for a buddy I think I'm going to wait to install the 85mm MAF until I go in to get my next tune

I would go with a lid. I think it looks better (looks like it belongs, rather than an afterthought like the K&N setup) and performs the same or better for less money.

I forgot to mention I see alot of lids rub the hoods on camaros. Another reason I dnt buy one. Dnt get me wrong I would have like to keep it all SLP stuff. But not if it's going to rub the hood... And the headers hang down too low on the tune lengths.... And as for FIPK costing more isn't that true. After you buy new lid bellow and ram air your about the same cost with same gain.

Get a lid AND run a good CAI kit like SSRA. CAI is one of the most under rated mods IMO.
