Default Big Cam cars......Idle Speed?

What are you guys idling at? I have a 231/226 .591/.585 112 cam and my idle is at 900 rpm in gear with a/c, 1200-1300 in neutral w/ a/c on after i had tuning done. I wish it was lower, around 650 or 700 rpm, but I don't know if this is possible with an A4. I miss my lope..... Mods in Sig. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

Yes it is! Ive got a little bit larger cam than you do, with NO tuning and with it in gear, stopped, I idle at about 600 and in park or Neutral is about the same 550-650. When im rolling and coming to a stop, it idles about 1200 and when i stop it drops down to the normal idle (600 area). I love the lope i get with the idle that low, sounds like its about to die and that its gonna rip ur face off too! Its beeeutiful! Ive got almost the same mods in ur sig, only expection is my converter is about a 36-3800 and i have the stock mass air. JP

Thanks for the info. Without tuning, my car idled like that too, and I miss it. I have been considering converting to an M6 and swapping my buddies 2000 M6 computer into my car, mostly because I'm sick of this stupid high Idle and my newfound converter vibration. I may send my computer back and have the idle lowered and try that first though (along with turning my converter to a different set of flywheel holes). I just don't want the starting problems I had before the tune: Warm Engine =

1200-1300 Wow! I've never heard of a LS1 car idling that fast. I'm running a TRex @900 rpm idle. With a good tune it shouldn't be near that high.

yeah, i dont see why you need to idle that high with that cam, mine is bigger 238/242 and it idles at 900, and is tuned.

My idle is at 850. Works well on an M6.

When I got it tuned, I had the throttle blade drilled out so that it would idle without the tune to begin with. After the tune, it was idling high, and it didn't want to come back down to idle at driving speed, it would literally keep the car going 60mph with my foot off the gas. I told myself that all this would be remedied by welding throttle blade and drilling the hole back to stock. Well I did this and it acted totally ignorant and wouldn't idle or start after it warmed up again, so I drilled the hole back out a little until it acted right. This lessened the car wanting to pull itself down the road, but didn't lower my idle any. I still have a good bit of surging, but I am told that's gonna happen no matter what. I had it tuned by a reputable guy, and he said he would adjust if needed, but it was idling just the same when I left him, so I figured that was where it needed to be. It's beginning to annoy me, so I may get my computer back to him soon and see if he can't get my idle back down some.

with my 4000 vig, we got my X1 to idle right between 800-900....WOW....thru Mac mids and ORY and Corsa it sounded HELLA GOOD.....w/manuals you could probably get along w/a 700 rpm idle....

Ok, I definitely need something tweaked if you can get that idle with that cam.

takes a VERY VERY Talented Tuner....Jayson spent nearly 2hrs on the dyno to get it like that.....I was running a total timing of 30 degrees of timing w/0KR....that was even spraying.....I never went below 50psi of fuel pressure on the juice even w/that kind of aggressive tuning. I'd add 1-2 gallons of 104 octane if I had the intention of going out to spray....but normally there would only be 93 octane outta the pump. Jayson is one of the best tuners in the country.....he's off the chain.

w/a 232/240 593/603 112 cam in my A4 i idle at 950 regardless of A/C .. idles fine

I tried lowering to 750 over the weekend but I think the hole for my TB is too large for that low of an idle ....

My car still sounds plenty lopey though even at 950rpm ... i had my TR224 idling comfortably at 650rpm last year (112 LSA) ... just had to play w/the VE table alot (plus worked w/the idle timing and a few other tables but it eventually idled great)
