Default How much does Icing down the intake help your 1/4ET?

I was wondering if next time I should ice down the intake at the track? I was thinking about icing it after a run then running it. Would that help my 1/4ET I have seen some magazine's that say it does.

No need to ice down the intakes on LS1s because they are composite, they really don't get that hot.

Yeah I kind of noticed that, I would touch the intake after a run, and it was not that hot.

It worked pretty good on my Mustang... but as mentioned, it's not going to do anything to the LS1/LS6 intakes.

WTF!!...That **** is For Lightnings man...I usually see people with ice bags on top of the intake at the track..mostly Ford Lightnings i personally think that is a little too much!! ...but whatever floats your boat

I don't think he meant the actual engine intake, but the lid. I ice mine down to cool down the lid so my IATs are not affected. I have noticed a difference by doing this.

No, you put a bag of ice on the intake manifold. It works well between runs if it's an aluminum intake.

I wouldn't do it for the reasons above plus taking water to the track is not good.

The LS1/LS6 intake manifold is composite therefore it doesn't have heatsoak issues. I ice down my blower, but never did my LS1. It actually liked being hot lapped.

My LS1 likes being hot lapped as well, but my LT1 loved the ice on the intake. Usually good for 1.5 to 2 tenths. On a LS1 ice would be a waste of money, IMO
