Default Advice please on oil temperature sender fitment on 5.3 Vortec

Hi there, I am not sure if this is in the correct forum, but here goes. I have recently fitted an oil pressure sender via the cover plate above the oil filter on my Vortec 5.3, as per the following picture (not my engine but from the Autometer site which gives a tutorial)

I read somewhere that it is advised not to use teflon tape to seal the thread, but for what reason was not explained. My mate who drilled and tapped the plate used liquid teflon sealer, so my question is this OK to use instead of the tape?

I assume the thread needs to be sealed to prevent a leak, but what I am concerned about is whether the liquid teflon will interfere with the ground.

Any advice would be much appreciated.
