Default 317 heads

Just bought a 2000 trans am. If I swap out the 241 heads for ported 317 will my hooker headers still fit?

Yes the 317 heads came off a lq9 or lq4. 4.8/5.3 327, 5.7 350ls1/ls6, 6.0 ls2 are all interchangeable with each other. There all the same block just different bore size. Those heads are going to drop you compression and may see a decrease in power unless your Doing boost?

What if the heads chamber has been shaved down to 66 cc?

You shouldnt have any issues. Planning on using a aftermarket cam?

I'm going to do an aftermarket cam and either ls6 intake or fast. My budget is around $2000-2500. Don't want to loose power by switching to the 317 heads. Maybe port my 241 or buy a pair of used 243? Lots of threads out there I want to make around 425 rwhp.

measure for correct length push rods after the milled heads are installed with the head gasket.

Buy a set of used 243s or 799 heads get them Cnc ported you will make awesome power! My buddy had 9psi of boost on his zo6 ls6 383 stroker with a blower cam with Cnc ported 243s and put down good numbers. If your going to forge everything out and plan on running high boost I probably would go with 317 heads. I'm running fast 102 intake and 92mm TB and fast fuel rails, I paid over a grand so it's really spendy but well worth it. You can get a ls6 intake and a four bolt conversation spacer and throw a 90mm TB on and make well over 400rwhp with ported heads and cam. Defiantly look into Nick Williams throttle body top notch!
