I usually use a ratchet on these, roughly ~10 lb-ft of torque or so, and that seems to be enough to keep them on without cracking them.

TECH Fanatic
I got tired of losing my black plastic covers and just bought a set of black Gorilla lug nuts. They hold up really well and do not scratch. I always thought the plastic caps were kind of hokey.
Of course I kept the originals and they are in a baggie in the garage.

I have never had issues with leaving any marks on the plastic when using the correct 19mm socket and minimal torque.

Since the car is bone stock with only 8500 miles my goal is to keep it looking like it came from the factory. It still has the Delco battery and some the plastic on the insides. It's a long story about the history that save for the right forum. Thks again the socket with the cloth will do !

Thanks rpmws6 and all the others who responded, will use 19mm and not try to tighten to much to brake it . This site is great in that guys are willing to give good advice to new be's.

Well I got a 19mm socket and wrench tighten them JUST a touch, see if that will keep them on. Took my time to slip the socket over the plastic .Thanks for replies George

You'd think as a truck driver I'd have lug nut covers, but I like to show my nuts......both on my car, p/u, and semi truck. Mine are just dark grey plastic but if you want them, you're more then welcome to them. I'd be more then happy to mail them to you.
