Many people talk about "hearing" a car hit it's rev limiter. What does it sound like? Does the engine just cut out, or what?

it will hit the rev limiter and then "bounce off" it, sound like someone taching it up multiple times really fast

o dear god my birgin ears, just be happy you never heard your baby make that sound. It would bring a tear to anyone's eye

my stupid *** left it in 2nd gear my first run at the track, hit the REV limiter and thought I was going to cry (first time) but yeah, it "bounces" and then goes wa wa wa wa wa wa wa wa wa wa, until you realize your a butt head, and shift it into 3rd

At a stop light, put it in neutral and floor it for a second. you'll find out and nothing should happen (maybe bend a pushrod if you hold it, but I doubt it). I left off the limiter many times at the track. On the LS1 cars, when you hit it, the pcm cuts fuel randomly to cylinders. I believe on LT1 cars it cut spark.
Any one clarify if I am right?

Whoops! That's right. That's why it's not so dangerous to hit the limiter while spraying a LS1.
