Default where to place cutouts?

hey everyone,
i'm a fairly new LS1 owner and brand new to the site. i've got a 2000 z28. The car has headers that come out to an x pipe and dump at the axle. i love the idea of cutouts; the sound, the look, the power, etc. My only question is that it seems that all my exhaust after the headers is welded. is placing the cutouts directly after the headers the way to go? i'm not too sure on where the right place to install them is.

thanks everyone.

do you have mufflers after the x pipe?

So far I understand you have headers, x pipe , and possibly mufflers.

if not, you are basically running open headers (purpose of cutouts imo).

Some people put cutouts before the cats and while others may prefer to put it in the I pipe part of the exhaust (after cats).

No mufflers, no cats. after the x pipe there are what appears to be collectors just before it dumps at the axle. all of this was installed when i bought the car, so i'm still figuring it all out.

Cutouts before X will just be for a loud *** tone on a X-Pipe setup. I would put them after the X-Pipe before the axle.

I have mine 16" back from my headers it's loud, sounds great with my cam. But with my exhaust and sounds like yours too you won't gain much power wise you already have a free flowing exhaust. I gained 4 hp and 3 ft lbs with my dual cut outs. Hope this helps

Idk if it be worth installing a cutout honestly.

you have a very free flowing exhaust.
