Picked up my first ls1.. exhaust is very quiet
Managed to find a firebird formula with 22K miles, completely stock.
I watched a few stock exhaust firebird formula videos on youtube and they are all loud and have a nice rumble.
At idle my car does not seem to have any rumble. It's very quiet.
It really opens up in acceleration but I am wondering why my idle is so quiet.
Silencer?

It's probably just the camera that makes them sound loud. These cars are very quiet stock, it doesn't help that you have the base Formula/Trans Am catback either. My SS has the CME and it reminds me of a stock truck exhaust with how quiet it is.

i will add that that formula in the video, may have, most likely has over 5 times the milage of urs. with only 22k miles, ur car is still new in many senses, and its my expiriance that exhaust gets louder over years if milage is higher. so either put another 100k on urs to get that sound, or buy a lm2 catback, and it will sound better.

^^ I agree its the low mileage.. get a cat back if you don't like it...just don't go cutting shyt on a 22k car be happy you have something so nice not a rattle trap.

I'll say welcome to the club! And don't be disappointing if the car is too smooth for you :-)
Another variable is temperature. When it's cold out the car is much louder on idle. I'm sure that's to do with the timing, fuel trim etc.
I will say IMHO that the LT1 has a much better sound. But that's just me.

As other's have stated, stock exhaust is very quiet. Videos you hear can be deceptive depending on the camera and conditions. Like mentioned above, any exhaust will be louder when the engine is first started cold (as compared to warmed up), especially on a car with cats (they quiet the exhaust much more as they warm up).
When combined with stock manifolds and cats, Magnaflow is only slightly louder than stock at idle, IMO. This system is good for someone that's looking for a slight increase in sound but not too loud, or to tame an LT/ORY setup. I wouldn't suggest it to anyone that's looking for an "old school muscle car sound" on their otherwise stock car though. For something like that, you really need a chambered system/muffler or a Loudmouth or similar muffler-less type cat back.
