Default Newbie Help?

My next car no matter what is going to be an ls1 f-body. Im looking on craigslist & theres a couple with a lot of performance mods & such done to it. However I have a very small price limit. I found a 1998 z28 w/ 150k miles on it, yes that scares me, however its only $3500. Im thinking about buying it & modifying how I want it. I want to build a car not buy it, however if a build car is a good price I will buy it. Okay well my question is, what should I do to make it "newer" along with giving it great hp gains. I was thinking about starting with a ls6 block that I found on craigslist also for $250. Should I start there & if so what would be the next things I should do or should I go down a different path? Or should I just forget that Camaro & save up $2600 more & get a different Camaro that is the true ss with a 383 stroker, ls6 heads, ls6 intake, ms3 cam, 4:10 rear end, kooks headers, & a shift kit in the trans?

If you get the 98, I'd start off with maint, do a full tune up and go threw the car making sure everything is good. $3500 isn't too bad. Maybe talk him down to 3k. I paid 4k for my t/a with only 100k miles. Guy just wanted out of his payments and that's what he owed on it. So I got lucky. Buying a car that is already modded like the SS you mentioned, make sure he has paper work for everything. You could be just saying it's got that done when it don't. Not saying he is lying, just would be better with paperwork. But I'd prob go with the SS if everything checked out good. 98 is the weird year for the f body's.

I agree that seems to be a decent price. If it were me I would look for a stock 01to 02 . I believe they have better rod bolts. Its always to mod it yourself. Good luck

We'll they are both 98's but the ss is $7000 & the z28 is $4000 but I'm positive I can talk him down to $3500, I dunno about $3000. But yeah I'm going to make sure he has receipts & stuff like that. I tried looking for earlier f-body's on craigslist but there aren't very many & the few on there are +$9000. I have a tiny budget of $4400 but I'm adding to it every chance I get. I would like to get a car now but also thinking about it, winters coming in fast & I'll have to store it. So I'm thinking about saving all throughout winter & wait till spring so I can have a bundle of money available & I can actually drive it. Also be able to get a nice one that I can heavily modded or get one modded

Im 16 & I sold my 2003 dodge Dakota r/t with engine work dynod at 257 rwhp because I wanted a ls1. I think I might buy an z28 with higher miles & buy a block & do a whole bunch of motor work to that block while driving the z28 & when I finish the block build, ill do a motor swap. Sound good? & I only have a budget of $4400 so I doubt id be able to get anything on here for that plus I don't know the condition its in & don't have money for shipping it
