Default 2008 0 oil pressure

I have recently rebuilt my 5.3 but have 0 oil pressure. Checked the pickup tube and it's tight. It is a brand new oil pump. Any suggestions?

Yes, it's like the pump isn't picking up at all. Someone told me on some motors there is a small plug in the rear of the motor. I'm not sure if this one has that. I have ran it with the valve cover off and not a drop of oil coming through the push rod/rocker.

Make sure you oil pump o ring is seated properly. Did you replace the oil restrictor barbell. Either way, if your not checking oil pressure with a mechanical gauge, thats the first thing I would do to make sure its not a sensor problem.

So this one does have the restriction barbell in the rear?? I didn't remove it during the rebuild. Could it have fallen out?

If you didn't touch it it probably is fine, its behind the rear cover next to the crank. I would be focused on verifying if it actually has 0 oil pressure before you tear it apart.

I'll get a gage and check but I know with the valve covers of there is no oil coming through the rocker arms and the lifters are noisy.
