Found a 2000 5.3 locally guy says it had a 30-40 sec "rattle" from the bottom end on startup. The heads are off so I should get a pretty good look at it. My intentions are to build a very budget friendly stock bottom end turbo motor to gain experience for a less budget friendly forged turbo 6.0.

So here are my questions.

What should I look for that might be the source of the "rattle"

what harness and ecu should I look for to go with this motor?

What other questions should I be asking? Lol

you could try to use a feeler gauge to see how much play there is in the rod and mains .
