Allow myself to introduce..... myself. :)
Just thought I would introduce myself.
I'll soon be the owner of a 2002 Z28. The car is already purchased, I'm just waiting on recieving the title in the mail so I can title/register it in my name.
I used to own a 2002 Monte Carlo SS, which I did a few minor mods to. You can see the Monte here. This car was a real eyecatcher, and I was always getting compliments on it. And for a 3.8L it really had some get-up-and-go and had really good low-end torque.
I'm also the founder and administrator of ChevyMonteCarlo.net
About the Z28 I'm buying:
Like I said, it's a 2002. It's burgundy, black leather, all power, 6-speed, and the previous owner had a Flowmaster catback put on it. It has 11,500 original miles on it, and I bought it for $18,500 ($1,000 under blue book for my zip code).
Looking at my Monte Carlo, you can tell I don't like leaving my cars bone stock, so I already have a list of entry level mods I plan on doing to the Z28:
- SLP Ultra-Z hood (I'd like to have ram air)
- SLP Loudmouth (sorry, I don't like Flowmasters... and I want a real loud, mean sound that puts out some decent HP gains)
- SLP MAF sensor
- 17x9 10 spoke SS wheels
- Hi flow airbox lid
- A handheld PCM re-programmer to tweak some basic settings
That's pretty much it, so far! My initial goal is to achieve 350hp, which seems to be easily reachable with an LS1. My long term goal (years from now) is to be in the 400hp neighborhood.
Future mods (if I win the lottery!) would include a few LS6 parts (intake, heads, etc), some kind of cam package, Moser rear end, suspension upgrades... stuff like that.
So how does all this sound? I Hope to gain quite a bit of wisdom here! And I think I will...
Thanks,
Grave

Welcome to the site!
Gets some pics of the car when you get it!
Quite a few people here say the flowmaster catback actually hurts power.
Also for the price of a handheld, you can have it tuned with ls1 edit and gain way more than any handheld will do.
Have fun with it, I'm sure you'll love it!

Welcome to the site! I don't blame you for upgrading to the Camaro, those Monte's look nice but are SLOW. Too bad they didn't have an LS1 option for them
You can have ram air on a Camaro without changing the hood, just get an under airbox type one. SLP sells them. They pull air from under the car.

dont waist your money on the slp maf.. the stocker does just fine...
a ported throttle body would give you better gains for your $$$...
just my .02 i would just add a cutout to the exhast you have... why waist all that money?
cutout is louder then a loud mouth and nothing outflows wide open
just saved you 500 bucks...
so you could get headers

welcome to the f-body world. sounds like you already know what you are doing. but i am with the above. although the loudmouth sounds good it gets annoying...hence the cutout. predator tuner is infinetly reprogrammable through email. you can have them write a new program everytime you add something to your car. also do not add the slp maf. you will my gain peak but you willl loose way too much midrange to make up for it. love the z-hood choice. good choices.

I'd port the TB, SLP ram air, cutout, LS1 edit tune, and exhaust of your choice.
Check out the link in Jaberwaki's sig, has some good sound clips.

Welcome to the board
As for the exhaust, if you want loud get some LT headers and a X-Pipe with dump offs at the axles , By far the best sounding exhaust on a LS1!
