How much is this free camaro going to cost me?
Hello just found your site and have a question. My co worker gave me his 1999 camaro due to him running out of money for storage fees. The problem is the motor was taken out by a speed shop because there was a ticking sound. They discovered a lifter broken (the wheel on the bottom of the lifter) but the main problem is the new lifter does not want to slide into the lifter bore anymore. Does this mean the block is shot or can this be fixed. Im trying to get this car on the road to sell so I can buy my daughter her first car. The guy I got the car showed me the paperwork where he had it dynoed (spelling) at 458 my daughter is 16 didnt think those two numbers where a good combonation. The block is a LS1 aluminum block bored 30 over with a aggressive cam.

Its going to cost you at least $3k to get it up and running with a new, stock engine and labor. This budget wouldn't include any unforeseen issues
Don't give your 16 year old daughter a 500 horsepower car.

If the lifter bore isn't totally destroyed a good mechanic might be able to clean it up without removing the engine, but the cam will also need to be replaced and likely need a full set of lifters too.
You could pull the engine and put a junkyard 5.3 truck motor in it with the ls1 accessories on it with a mail order tune for the different engine. This would cost you around $400 for the engine and $150 for the tune and either labor or your time to do the swap.
Then part out or sell the whole engine you remove and make some of that back.
Then she could either enjoy the now 280-300 hp car or you can sell it but it will likely be worth in the $3,000-5,000 range depending on how nice the rest of the car is.
