Default Changing Plugs

Is there a trick to getting the plug wires off the plugs? I want to check my plugs, and I am having a hard time getting the tire off. I don't want to brake the wire so I am trying to be some what easy. The car only has 42K on it, but still wanted to look at the plugs.

You can try twisting the boots some, rather than just pulling. If they have never been removed, there is a good chance you might break a couple trying to get them off at this point.

I am glad to see others had the same issue. I will try the twist thing. With all that room in there, it shouldn't be a problem.

Twisting it worked, thanks. Well, at least one of them did. The plug was dirty so I will change them. Not looking forward to this.

happens all the time. twist them to break the suction and pull from the boot not the wire. when u go to change the plugs, do it from the bottom. its alot easier. i did it on my lt1(very cramped) camaro in bout 1.5 hours taking my time. use dielectric grease on the boots so they come off easier next time

Not corroded at all. Now with that being said, that was only one plug. The other seven could be a real pain with my luck.

Much easier from the top IMO, especially on a '99+ car. A simple ratcheting box-end 10mm wrench for the rear coil rail bolt and the rail comes off quickly and easily. At that point, everything else from the top is much easier access.

With the proper tool, the coil rail can be off in a couple of minutes and then access to everything is reasonable. From the bottom, you're just working in the dark and that is never my preference.

10 minute plug change would be sloppy work IMO. It takes at least 5 minutes just to check plug gap, prep the threads with anti-seize, and coat the plug boots with dielectric grease.

Without headers the last one passenger side is a bitch. I use to get to that one from the bottom. Take the coils/rails off to get the rest of them off.

I changed the plugs today. I had to get my neighbor to get the one in the back. My fore arm is to big and I couldn't get to it. What a pain in the butt. But its don't now.

I changed the plugs from TR6's to TR55's and added MSD wires...

I did it all from the top except number 8 plug (couldnt reach it) so I will change that plug later..

on the Wires do I need to reuse the metal shields for the MSD wires or is it fine without it?

I noticed on startup that there was a little smoke coming from the plugs but I figured it was from the new anti-seize dressing.
