Default 02 Cobra vs. 02 Camaro

I just got my z about a week ago and this guy that works close to me has a 2002 cobra. I got off work tonight and started out to my car and he was stopped out there looking at it. He asked me if i wanted to loose my first race to a mustang. Of course I asked him would he be bringing an 03 to do the job, and he said his stock 02 would own my ***. The weather was bad tonight and it started raining shortly after so we both decided to do it another night. He car seemed basically stock except an exhaust. Mine is a 2002 A4 with 2.23 gears, Air Lid and free mods only. Who would win the race and what rwhp should I be putting down compared to him. Also any ideas of what 1/4 a good driver good do w/ this car?

Thanks for any help.

The Cobra weighs more but I'm not sure about the horses. I know for awhile the cobras had problems putting out as much power as the factory said it did. Ford fixed it but I'm not sure when. It will be close and it will really depend on driver skills.

2.23's? are you sure they arent 2.73's? i may be wrong, but i was under the impression that the a-4 f bodies only came in 2.73's and 3.23's. m-6 had the 3.42's

I think you'll be alright. Those Stangs are nice, but from the few that I've been in (the V-6, a GT, and a Mach I) they're over-rated. They do what they do pretty well, if you're talking about rice, but against GM, they tend to pale. Just my thoughts on it, but I'd say give it a go, then ask him how much he paid for his 02 Cobra.

Here's an article I use for reference.

http://popularmechanics.com/automoti...s/index5.phtml

In this test, it was .09 of a second difference between the two, the Camaro being the winner. I'd say it's a drivers race.

I think it will depend on driver's skill and perhaps the choice of a starting speed. Generally those cobra's are mid-high-13's, while 02 ls1's are low-mid-13 sec car so you should have a slight advantage, but if you start out of your power band it may take longer.

Is he a 5sp and do you plan to race from a roll or dig?

Thanks for sharing that site..... That's probably one of the best Head 2 Head match up's I've ever seen. Makes me giggle like a school girl to think that w/ another $6k invested in my lil 'ol Z28, I'd be running circles around those $100+ k pasta rockets!!

If he's telling you it's an '02 Cobra then you might wanna check out his ride because SVT didn't make a '02 Cobra.

In 2000 SVT made like 500 of the Cobra R, the big field-goal wing.
Then they made plain 2001's but didn't make 2002's because they were trying to get the 03 blower Cobra's ready.
This is all from what I remember hearing, I might be wrong.

Peace,
Craig.

They did make a few 02 Cobras, and only sold them in the Dearborn Area. I will have to find the article I read it in...
