Default needle bearing on oil drain plug

I found a needle bearing on my drain plug last night. Almost sure its not from a rocker because the rocker needle bearings are a quarter inch and the one I found is half an inch. What is the size of a lifter needle bearing? What else could this bearing have come from?

Not a needle bearing more like an axle. We have ls7 lifter sets on gp for $90 and if you want to do the rockers at the same time...

Post a picture of the needle bearing so we can check it out. Really the only other part/parts you can potentially get needle bearings from would be a lifter.

What year model engine? Floating pistons? Could be a wire pin lock if floating pins.

OK so it's not a lifter and it's too long for a rocker.

So it's a piece that looks like a needle but it's not.

Could be as mentioned part of a wire lock for piston pin. Broken chunk of gear tooth from chain. Part of a piston oil ring rail.

Or could have been left in there from a rebuild. Is it making noise? Got in funnel or oil filter from oil change? What to do?

Peace of mind means tear down. If it was me I'd leave it if engine is running fine but it's a risky deal..

Thanks for the help buddy...the motor is out of car. I am swapping it into a 91 camaro. You cant go wrong with "peace of mind" lol thats for sure. I pulled pistons yesterday and everything is good there. There was one rod bearing that had some wear on it so I will replace all bearings. The crank looks really good but I will have a light polish job to remove some small scratces. Timing chain is good from what ive seen turning the engine, still havent removed front cover. Im shooting that the junk was lodged in the oil pan oil filter holes. The motor was running and sounded great when I pulled it from thr wrecked donor car. Will finish tearing it apart today!!

We do not sell used parts like that. They will likely be a higher quality than what is in your engine now and of course brand new with 0 miles.

Those fragments look like either camshaft, lifter, or possibly bearing material. With the lifter looking like that even I bet the cam is toast.

Just an update. Tore engine down and found nothing broken or chipped, no spun bearings, nothing. Took block to shop and had a wash and new cam bearings installed. The crank was also polished and purchased new main and rod clevite p-series bearings. Just got great news found me a set of ls6 heads off a Z06. Will have them milled, port and polished, valve job, as well as the ls6 intake and tb I already have. My blockIis also a ls6 block. This is all going in a 91 Camaro with a t56.

don't polish the head ports .porting is all you need .get new trunnion bearings for your rocker arms .a new ls2 timing chain is $40 . DO NOT reuse the head bolts ,get new ones .

I already had the trunnion upgrade kit in box at home but sent it back to Summit so I could buy the bearings. I will be buying again before complete assembly though! New head gaskets and bolts will also be used. I buy the good stuff but usually one thing at a time due to budget. Thanks for the reply!!!! Oh and I already have the ls2 timing chain and high volume oil pump.

The summit brand does not come with the bolts you need. The comp ones do. We have a few open boxes at $125.
